Leave library alone
Being a product of the Wake County schools, when attending local, neighborhood schools was not deemed racist and the former superintendent was one of my former principals, it seems illogical to close the one library students have in Garner. The Southeast Regional Library is a community asset, showing no impartiality, allowing community bonding and helping families save money.
As we return to neighborhood schools, which allow more parental and community involvement in kids' lives, the Southeast Library must remain open. We have seen textbooks diminish in our schools, we have seen scandals rob our children of educational monies, and we are unsure what the future is now unveiling.
Who can say another brouhaha won't negatively impact access to textbooks next year?
With unanswered questions and a downturn in the economy, leave the library alone and question the Wake County schools budget.

Cancer patient says thanks
I bow and tip my hat to the Johnston Medical Center Hematology and Oncology Center, which is located in the Medical Mall in Smithfield. About a month ago, I had my last chemotherapy, and as far as I am concerned, I am healed.
I've had the honor of getting to know some very special people. These people came into my life in May of 2009. It was the first time I met Dr. Russell "Rusty" Anderson. I didn't meet Dr. Anderson again until September 2009, when I was diagnosed with cancer.
I went for an appointment at the cancer center, and I have to tell you, I was a little wary. But from the time my husband Howard and I walked through the doors, we were made to feel like a part of the family. The cancer center employees are not just workers who work together; they are family, and that is what they make you feel like. Everyone has a loving hug for all.
This family includes Dr. Anderson and his nursing staff, medical technicians, office personnel, nursing assistants and volunteers. These are the wonderful people who work with and support each other and support their patients. Nurses Dena Garner, Bianca Caughman, Tina Bizzell, Linda Parker, Regina Sherman, Shelly Phillips and Denise Deel are the best. They never let you feel sorry for yourself. They always speak encouragement to you. They keep something going all the time. They make you smile or just laugh out loud.
Other support team members include Jay Renfrow. He made sure my medicine was there on time so the nurses could do their jobs. Then there are Ann Coley, Amanda Barber, Kelly Stewart, Jami Cook, Gussie McLean, Sandy Zorn and Maryanne Bradshaw.
All of these wonderful people are a part of my life. I will miss the joy they brought into my life, and I will miss our time together.
I'm not gone, and I will visit often. People such as these should never be forgotten. I will never forget them. They are a part of me now, my extended family. I want to thank them for caring.
