Genealogy class

The Johnston County Heritage Center will offer a short course titled "A Beginner's Look at Genealogy." Starting April 8, the class will meet from 6:30 till 8:30 p.m. Thursdays through April 29.

Also, the class includes a field trip to the State Archives in Raleigh. Michal Watts of the Heritage Center will teach the class, which costs $20. To sign up, call 919-934-2836.

Over 30 basketball

The Avery Street Recreation Center in Garner will close registration for its 30 and older basketball program on March 16. Games will be played on Tuesdays, Thursdays and possibly Monday nights. Registration for town residents is $60 and $80 for non-residents.

Egg hunt

Garner's annual egg hunt will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at Lake Benson Park. Children 8 and under will be divided into three age groups to hunt for candy eggs and prizes. The egg hunt will begin at noon.

Participants should bring his or her own basket. The event will include the Easter Bunny, kites and inflatable amusements.

Republicans meet

The Southern Wake GOP will host its regular monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, at Devil's Ridge Golf Club, 5107 Linksland Drive, Holly Springs.

Relay for Life fundraiser

A Relay for Life fundraiser for Karen Jacobi will be held from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at Sonshine Learning Center, 13269 U.S. 70 W., Garner. The event will include music, food, inflatables, door prizes, a silent auction and more.

The cost is $10 for adults and $8 in advance.

Democratic men meet

The Democratic men of Johnston County will hold their monthly meeting at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Parkside Cafe, 2176 U.S. 70A, Pine Level. All Democrats are welcome.

Bark for life

Bark for Life will be held from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at Clayton Community Park on Amelia Church Road. The event will include vendors, doggie contests, canine demonstrations and more.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Johnston County Pesticide Disposal Day is scheduled from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at the Livestock Arena, 520 County Home Road, Smithfield.
