Fiber art in Clayton
Fiber art by Michelle Bonds of Raleigh will be on display Aug. 1-30 at Eye of the Eagle Art Gallery, 131 E. 1st St., Clayton. A reception for the artist is scheduled from 6:30 till 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6. Bonds' work has apeared in the magazines Cloth Paper Scissors, Sew Somerset and Art Doll Quarterly.
"I created mixed-media art and jewelry, with a focus on recycled materials, including dryer sheets, paper, paper towels, aluminum cans and bottle caps, along with hand-dyed and painted fibers and fabrics," the aritist said. Eye of the Eagle is open from 11 a.m. till 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 11 a.m. till 5 p.m. Saturdays. To learn more, visit eyeoftheeagleart.com.
Council accepting grant applications
The Johnston County Arts Council is accepting applications for grants awarded through the N.C. Grassroots Arts Program. The grants are available to nonprofit groups that promote and develop arts programming in Johnston County. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20. A workshop on how to apply for a grant is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at the Arts Council office, 231 E. 2nd St., Clayton. Cinema at the Center
The 2010 Cinema at the Center series concludes Sunday, July 25, with "Whale Rider." The screening is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the auditorium at The Clayton Center, 111 E. 2nd St., Clayton. Tickets are $2.50. They're available in the box office or by phone at 553-1737.
Artwork on display
Artwork by Eric McRay of Raleigh is on display through July 30 in the gallery at The Clayton Center, 111 E. 2nd St., Clayton. McRay works in acrylic on canvas. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
'Illusions of the King'
Keith Henderson will present his Elvis tribute, "Illusions of the King," at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium at Johnston Commuity College, 245 College Road, Smithfield.
Admission is $15, with proceeds going to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University Medical Center. Tickets are available online at jccperformingarts.com.

Country music in Selma
The next Country Tonight Music Show is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Friday, July 23, at The Ice House Theatre, 112 N. Webb St., Selma. Robert Leonard and the Robert Leonard Band will perform, with special guest Mike Baker.

Ava tickets on sale
Tickets are on sale for the 2010 Ava Gardner Festival Gala on Friday, Oct. 8, at the museum, 325 E. Market St., Smithfield.
Tickets are $50 and include a sneak peak at the museum's next exhibit, "Ava on the Small Screen," about the late actress's television roles.
