This summer, Johnston Community College teamed up with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission to offer Project WILD and Aquatic WILD, workshops that teach conservation principles for teacher renewal certification.
Certified and retired teachers, teacher assistants and college students studying education attended the free six-hour workshops held at the Workforce Development Center in Clayton.
The workshops are widely used by grades K-12 teachers of lessons in conservation and environmental education. They are based on the premise that young people and educators have a vital interest in learning about our natural world.
JCC also offers teacher renewal courses in Spanish, sign language and other topics. The next workshop, "The Holocaust and Contemporary Genocide," will meet from 9 a.m. till noon Aug. 2-5 at the Workforce Development Center.
For more information about teacher renewal courses, call Heidi Harris at 209-2594.
