Army trains Leonard

Army Pvt. Zach K. Leonard has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

He is the son of Steve and Donna Leonard of Neuse Ridge Drive, Clayton.

During the nine weeks of training, Leonard studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Leonard is a 2007 graduate of Clayton High School.

Army trains Field

Army Pfc. Cassandra J. Field has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

She is the daughter of Sandra and Dirk Field of Lilly Stream Court, Willow Spring.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Field is a 2007 graduate of Fuquay-Varina High School.

Army trains Brooks

Army Pvt. Samuel K. Brooks has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.

He is the son of John Brooks of Saleen Drive, Willow Spring, and grandson of Jaunita Brooks of Lumberton.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship qualification, bayonet combat, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, marches, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, traditions and core values.

Brooks is a 2009 graduate of Lumberton Senior High School.
