Artist showcase

Princeton artist Mary Brown will demonstrate her art from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, in the lobby of Johnston Medical Center on N.C. 42 West in Clayton. Admission is free. Brown has worked in oils, pastels, charcoal and organic materials. She has also done sculptures. Her works can be seen at Eye of the Eagle Art Gallery in Clayton, the Clayton Steakhouse and Orchard House Booksellers in Smithfield. Brown and her husband, James, have two children, Shane and Rebecca.

Music for Lunch

The 2010 Music for the Lunch Bunch series continues today (Wednesday, Aug. 11) with the vocalist Greg Honeycutt. The performance is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield. Admission is free. Fiber art in Clayton

Fiber art by Michelle Bonds of Raleigh is on display through August at Eye of the Eagle Art Gallery, 131 E. 1st St., Clayton.

"I created mixed-media art and jewelry, with a focus on recycled materials, including dryer sheets, paper, paper towels, aluminum cans and bottle caps, along with hand-dyed and painted fibers and fabrics," the artist said. Eye of the Eagle is open from 11 a.m. till 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 11 a.m. till 5 p.m. Saturdays. To learn more, visit eyeoftheeagleart.com.

'Illusions of the King'

Keith Henderson will present his Elvis tribute, "Illusions of the King," at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in the Paul A. Johnston Auditorium at Johnston Commuity College, 245 College Road, Smithfield. Admission is $15, with proceeds going to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University Medical Center. Tickets are available online at jccperformingarts.com.

Ava tickets on sale

Tickets are on sale for the 2010 Ava Gardner Festival Gala on Friday, Oct. 8, at the museum, 325 E. Market St., Smithfield. Tickets are $50 and include a sneak peek at the museum's next exhibit, "Ava on the Small Screen," about the late actress's television roles.

Third on Third

In Smithfield, the Third on Third summer concert series continues Aug. 20 with The Central Park Band. The free concert is scheduled from 7 till 9:30 p.m. at the corner of South Third and Johnston streets.

Art on display

Works by local artists are on display through August at The Clayton Center, 111 E. 2nd St., Clayton.

The artists include John Farr, Dorothy Demboski, Jane Prete, John McFadden, Carolyn Howard, Mary Brown and Gail O'Neil. The Clayton Center is ipen from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Artists sought for monthly exhibit

Clayton Visual Arts is seeking artists for the monthly exhibit at The Clayton Center. Interested artists should send their resume, a portfolio of four to six images and an application fee of $10 to the Exhibits Committee, Clayton Visual Arts, P.o. Box 698, Clayton, N.C. 27528. The deadline to apply is Sept. 15.

Also, Clayton Visual Arts is seeking entries for the 12th annual Clayton Art Faire. Three winners will take home $600 each. The deadline to enter is Friday, Aug. 20, and the entry fee is $20. Entry forms are available online at claytonvisualartsnc.org and at johnstoncountyarts.org.
