College schedules upcoming classes

Johnston Community College has scheduled the following classes.

Keyboarding & Office 2007 Mini Course - 6-9 p.m. Thursdays from Aug. 19 through Oct. 7 in Room A164 in the Elsee Building on the Smithfield campus, 245 College Road. Topics include keyboarding to build speed and accuracy and how to use the basic features of Microsoft's Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs. The fee is $68.

Computer Initiation and the Internet - 9 a.m.-noon Tuesdays, Aug 24-Sept. 28, at the Kenly Center. Topics include documents, basic spreadsheets, saving and accessing files, copying and moving files, organizing your hard drive with folders and using the Internet and e-mail. The fee is $67.

Computer Intermediate and E-mail - 1-4 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 19-Oct. 7, in Room A110 in the Elsee Building on the Smithfield campus. Topics including burning CDs and DVDs, downloading video, installing software, downloading photos from a digital camera to your computer and basic computer troubleshooting. The fee is $68.

E-mail and Internet Basics - 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Mondays, Aug. 26-Sept. 9, at the Kenly Center. The fee is $67.

Windows 7 & Keyboarding - 1-4 p.m. Mondays, Aug. 16-Oct. 11, in Room A107 in the Elsee Building on the Smithfield campus. The fee is $68.

Basic Word 2007 - 9 a.m.-noon Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 17-Sept. 9, in Room A164 of the Elsee Building. Topics include adding, moving through and editing text; changing margins and tab settings; changing the size and appearance of text; using the grammar and spelling checker; and saving, retrieving, organizing and printing documents. The fee is $68.

Discover Digital Photography - 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 31-Oct. 19, in Room 2012 at the Johnston County Workforce Development Center, 135 Bestwood Drive, Clayton. Topics include the basics of digital photography, including manipulating photos in the free Picasa and Picnik applications. Students should have their own camera, basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Windows. The fee is $68.

Introduction to Web Design and Graphics - 1-4 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 19-Dec. 9, in Room A166 in the Elsee Building on the Smithfield campus. Topics include creating web pages, formatting text and tables within a page and adding graphic elements to a web page. The fee is $125.

Medical Terminology: Part 1 - 6-9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Aug. 16-Oct. 11, in Room A110 in the Elsee Building. Topics include the medical vocabulary and the terms that relate to the anatomy, physiology, pathological conditions and treatment of selected systems. The fee is $125.

Photoshop for Beginners - 1-4 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 16-Oct. 5, in Room A110 of the Elsee Building. Topics include cropping, editing, resizing, adjusting color and contrast, cloning to remove unwanted items, printing and e-mailing photos. The fee is $68.

PC Support Technician: A+ - 6-10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 17-Dec. 14, in Room A107 in the Elsee Building. The fee is $180.

Ten Steps to Starting Your Own Business - 6-9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, in Room 1032 at the Johnston County Workforce Development Center, 135 Bestwood Drive, Clayton.

Greening Your Business - 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, Room 1032, Workforce Development Center.
