Barbecued chicken at Mount Zion UMC
Plates of barbecued chicken will be on sale from 11 a.m. till 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 15772 N.C. 50 North in the Cleveland community. Plates will include half a chicken, boiled potatoes, green beans, roll, dessert and a drink. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 4-12. Kids 3 and younger eat free. Takeout will be available. For large takeout orders, call 919-772-8415 in advance. The church is a quarter-mile south of the intersection of highways 50 and 42.
Church seeks craft vendors
Oakland Presbyterian Church in the Cleveland community is seeking vendors for its first crafts bazaar, which is scheduled from 8 a.m. till 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20. The church is seeking only handcrafted items, not commercial products. The cost is $45 for one table or $75 for two. For more information, call the church office at 934-5476. Payment is due by Sept. 8.
Stop Hunger Now event
Garner United Methodist Church will package 10,000 meals at 2 p.m. Sept. 19 in the church's Christian Life Center to support Stop Hunger Now, an international hunger relief group that coordinates food distribution around the world.
"This meal-packaging event gives everyone in our congregation and in our community, regardless of age, an opportunity to join together to wipe out hunger in impoverished nations," said Bill Haddock, senior pastor. "Our congregation feels privileged to host and support Stop Hunger Now."
Cash and check donations will be accepted until the event, and checks should be made payable to Garner United Methodist Church. Volunteers are also needed to package meals.

Candidates' day
First Baptist Church of Fuquay-Varina has scheduled an event to gather political candidates at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 29. Political candidates planning to attend include U.S. Congressman Bob Etheridge, U.S. Congressman Brad Miller, William Randall, candidate for U.S. Congress, District 13 and N.C. Secretary of State Elaine Marshall.

Movie night
A free family movie night is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Thanksgiving Baptist Church, 6701 N.C. 42, two miles east of the Buffalo Road intersection near Clayton. The film will be "Letters to God,"a true story about an 8-year-old boy who wrote letters addressed to God.
These letters were his way of talking with God about the things that were really important to him. These letters not only helped him deal with facing cancer but also worked to change the faith of those closest to him.
