David Washington threw for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead Southeast Raleigh over host Sanderson 35-0 on Friday night.
It was just the game Southeast Raleigh needed to put last week's heartbreaking loss to Holly Springs behind them.
"I think the coaches needed this [win] more than the players," Southeast head coach Daniel Finn said. "We worked on every little thing in practice."
The win was the reward for a week of hard preparation, and the squad still has high expectations. "We're pointed in the right direction," Washington said.
The junior QB's first pass was for a 45-yard touchdown reception to C.J. Moore.
The play was the result of an offside call on Sanderson (0-2) on fourth-and-3 three from the 50-yard line that gave the Bulldogs a first down. On the next play Washington connected with Moore, for a 7-0 lead. In the second, Jabari Balogun had a 2-yard run for a 14-0 lead.
The Bulldogs (1-1) benefited from Sanderson miscues and turnovers. In the second quarter, Southeast's Terrell Richardson's interception of a Spartans' pass set up a TD pass from Washington to Rashard Holt.
Then in the third, the Spartans had a snap sail over the quarterback's head that was recovered by Holt. On the next play Washington found Tristan Walker in the end zone for a 28-0 lead. Washington capped the scoring in the third on a 1-yard run.
