Cummins Atlantic has donated a 6.7-liter diesel engine to Johnston Community College.
Students in the heavy-equipment and transport-technology program will use the equipment to learn how to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair engines.
Michael Stanford, manager of the Cummins location in Kenly, said the gift provides an opportunity to give needed equipment to help train engine technicians of the future.
"Diesel engine technology is a lot more complicated today and we need skilled, trained technicians to repair our products," Stanford said. "Partnering with education just makes sense for the future success of our company."
"We are so grateful for this equipment gift from Cummins Atlantic," said David Johnson, JCC president. "This technology will be of great benefit to our students and is another example of how our community partners are helping us achieve excellence in education."
Cummins Atlantic is a corporation of complementary business units that design, upfit, distribute and service electric power-generation systems, engines and related technologies, including fuel systems, controls and air-handling, filtration and emissions systems.
