On Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday, Gatewood subdivision in Garner honored his legacy by unveiling a new subdivision sign donated by a newly formed Community Watch committee. The sign is symbolic of the renewed spirit within the community and a new commitment to work together for a safer environment for everyone. Many of the residents in attendance have lived in Gatewood for many years and are very pleased to see the formation of the committee.

Three officials came out to show their support of the unveiling and the new Community Watch committee. In attendance were Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison, Garner Mayor Ronnie Williams and Garner Councilman Jackie Johns.

Sheriff Harrison and his deputies have worked diligently and with great determination to help us in our plight. The sheriff's presence uplifted the spirit of our neighbors.

Mayor Williams shared with us his profound words of wisdom and candor. His sense of humor made us laugh. He seemed right at home. His presence alone made this event a most joyous occasion.

Councilman Johns, a man of the highest integrity, assured us that the steps we have already taken are certainly in the right direction. With his words of encouragement and advice, we shall move on to the days ahead with strength and unity.

We must keep moving.
