With prom right around the corner, Cinderella's Wardrobe is once again asking for donations.
Cinderella's Wardrobe is a nonprofit group created to benefit Johnston County girls who cannot afford dresses and accessories for their proms. In 2010, Cinderella's Wardrobe was able to help 40 girls.
The organization collects gently used formal dresses and accessories and stages "boutique days" one month before the prom so girls can try on dresses. Also, Cinderella's Wardrobe asks businesses to sponsor gift certificates for hair and nail salons, shoe stores, restaurants, florists, dry cleaners, seamstresses and jewelers.
Cinderella's Wardrobe relies on the Johnston County schools to provide the names of girls who will benefit the most from the program.
The group needs volunteers to help with registration; personal shopping; coordinating outfits; organizing jewelry and accessories; setting up and decorating the boutique; soliciting donations of dresses, accessories and gift certificates; inspecting donated items; tagging items; and distributing brochures and flyers.
In addition to volunteers, Cinderella's Wardrobe is seeking donations of gowns, accessories and money. To learn more, call Alison Kidder at 390-0110.
