Basketball

AAU Boys Team Tryouts

Tryouts for an area AAU boys basketball team for seventh and eighth graders will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 3 p.m. in the Kenly gym. The team fee will be $100 per player, which includes a uniform, insurance and AAU membership. All other funds will be generated through fundraisers. For more info, Brian Cuddington at 919-502-8876.

Basketball Camp Scholarships Offered

Wake Electric is offering basketball scholarships to both the Kellie Harper Basketball Academy at N.C. State and the Roy Williams Basketball Camp at UNC this summer. Students entering sixth, seventh or eighth grade in this fall are eligible for the scholarships. Students will be judged on academics, extracurricular activities and an essay. GAYSL Spring Baseball, Softball & T-Ball

Registration for Garner area youth baseball and softball with the Garner Area Youth Sports League is open until Feb. 15. Leagues are offered for ages 7-16 in baseball, 6-16 in softball and T-Ball for ages 5-6. The fees are $75-95 for Town of Garner residents or $95-115 for non-residents. Cleveland Area Youth Softball

Registration for spring softball with the Greater Cleveland Athletic Association is open online until March 4. No walk-in regisration will be held for softball. Practices start on March 17 and games begin in early April. For more info, visit gcaasports.com.

Greater Cleveland Baseball Registration

Registration is now open for the spring recreational baseball season with the Greater Cleveland Athletic Association. The cost is $75 for T-ball; $90 for coach-pitch, minor league and major league players, which includes uniform jersey, cap and socks. Practices will begin in March and opening day is April 7. Equestrian

Johnston County Horse Show Series

The 2012 Johnston County Horse Show Series schedule has been announced. All events will be held at the Johnston County Livestock Arena, is set. Each show starts at 8:30 a.m. and is managed by Blaine and Michelle McLaughlin. Show dates for 2012 are Feb. 25 (pre-season warmup), March 24, April 21, May 26, June 24, Aug. 3-4 (at the Hunt Horse Complex in Raleigh) Sept. 29, Oct. 27 and Nov. 17. The Johnston County HUNTER Show Series will be held at 9 a.m. on May 5, June 2, Aug. 18 and Sept. 15 this year. A negative Coggins test is required on all horses that participate.
