Garner Fire-Rescue honors 3

The following is from Garner Fire-Rescue.

Garner Fire-Rescue presented three awards at its annual Ladies Banquet.

Steve Woodall was named the 2011 Volunteer Firefighter of The Year.

A firefighter for almost 45 years, Woodall has also served as president of the board of directors.

Christian Kemp received the 2011 Career Firefighter of The Year award.

A three-year veteran of the department, he has been a paid employee since 2010.

Lt. Ronnie Correia received the first Chief's Award. Correia has been with the department since 2006.

In 2011, he accomplished the following:

Resurrected the Garner Fire Golf Tournament to raise money for cancer research.

Chaired the first Garner Fire-Rescue Relay for Life team, which raised more than $4,000.

Served on the department's first apparatus committee.

Organized the department's first softball tournament.
