Karate team wins national titles
Recently eight members of the Karate Dojo Apex competed in the AAU National Karate Championship.
The team brought home seven national titles, four silver medals and four bronze medals.
ASU awards degrees
The following students students recieved degrees from Appalachian State University this spring:
Garner residents Carmen E. Davis, Anna R. Malcolm, Nathan W. Morris, Amanda N. Pierce, Keyontae M. Swinson, Jacqueline J. Thompson and Kaitlyn M. Utley earned bachelor’s degrees.
Aylin Diaz and Mistina R. McGee, both of Garner, earned master’s degrees.
The following local students have been named to the spring semester Chancellor’s List and Dean’s List at Appalachian State University.
The Chancellor’s List includes Hannah R. Evans, Anna R. Malcolm, Desiree M. Pinol and Samantha F. Wathen.
The Dean’s List includes Caroline P. Allen, Natalie G. Ayscue, Savannah M. Behrent, Benjamin H. Constantinides, Hannah R. Evans, Sara R. Lane, Ariel T. Magno, Anna R. Malcolm, Kelly R. Montague, Amanda N. Pierce, Desiree M. Pinol and Samantha F. Wathen.
The Chancellor’s List recognizes full-time undergraduates with at least a 3.85 grade point average. The Dean’s List recognizes full-time undergraduates with at least a 3.45 grade point average who carry 12-14 hours or students with at least a 3.25 grade point average who carry at least 15 hours.
Students on the Chancellor’s List are also on the Dean’s List.
Barton College honors
Garner resident Valerie Ann Riddle has been named to the spring semester Deans List at Barton College.
Recruit completes boot camp
Army Pvt. Brent E. Coffey recently completed basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During his nine weeks of training, Coffey studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values and physical fitness. He also received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid and foot marches.
Coffey, a 2012 graduate of William G. Enloe High School, is the son of Lee Ellen Coffey of Garner.
