Public information meeting

A public information meeting to discuss the proposed Indoor Recreation Center for the Town of Garner will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at the Garner Performing Arts Center, 742 W. Garner Road, Garner. For more information, call 919-773-4442.

Veterans Advisory Board

The Town of Garner is seeking applicants for a new Veterans Advisory Board. The board will be composed of seven at-large members, at least four of whom are honorably discharged veterans. This board may make recommendations concerning issues related to town policies that affect veterans, and will operate as a link between Garner residents and town officials to explore ways to honor and recognize the service of area veterans. Flu clinics

Wake County is holding weekly drop-in flu vaccination clinics from 3-7 p.m. on Thursdays at the Southern Regional Center, 130 N. Judd Parkway, Fuquay-Varina. In addition to the weekly clinics, appointments can be scheduled. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 919-557-2501.

Garner TRACK trails

The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation’s Kids in Parks program will celebrate the placement of a child-friendly hiking trail at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Lake Benson Park, 921 Buffaloe Road, Garner. To date, the program has installed more than 50 child-friendly hiking paths called TRACK trails in communities throughout North Carolina. For more information, visit www.KidsInParks.com.

Clothing giveaway

A clothing and household item giveaway will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, in the fellowship hall of Red Hill United Church of Christ, 10412 Buffalo Road, Clayton. For more information, call 919-989-5902.

Events at Southeast Regional Library

6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5: A public information session on the Affordable Care Act will be held. The session will include an overview of the ACA law, as well as information on how to apply and get in-person assistance. Registration is requested for this free event.

10 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 9: Children will be given two free laminated ID cards which will include their photograph, fingerprints and a description of distinguishing features. Parents must be present. This free event is first-come, first-served.

3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19: The American Red Cross’s Bloodmobile will stop in to accept donations for its blood bank. To register in advance, visit www.redcrossblood.org and log in as “Wake Library.” Walk-in donors are also accepted.

Food pantry

A food pantry is open from 9 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday of each month at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 1082 Amelia Church Road, Clayton. The food is free to anyone presenting an ID card. For more information, call 919-934-0213.

Parenting workshops

Partnership for Children of Johnston County offers two programs for parents with young children.

•  Motheread is a 12-week self-paced program that combines the teaching of literacy skills with child development and family empowerment issues.

•  The Incredible Years parent program offers weekly group sessions for 14 to 16 weeks. Participants practice skills to promote children’s academic, social and emotional skills.

Classic Car Club meets

Memory Lane Classic Car Club meets for dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a gathering at 7 p.m. the third Monday of the month at Golden Corral, 60 Son-Lan Parkway, Garner. For more information, call 919-553-6229.

Overeaters Anonymous
