Beginner Gymnastics

Children learn the basics of gymnastics (vault, bars, beams, a spring floor) in this three-week class for ages 5-12. The next session runs Feb. 4-18 at 7 p.m. on Thursdays. The cost is $29-38.

Recreational softball league

A recreational softball league will be offered this spring by the Garner Parks Dept. for ages 18 and older. Fun, fellowship and equally competitive teams are needed for this USSSA league. Games will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Creech Road School Park. Register by March 10, the night of the league meeting (6:30) at the Avery Street Recreation Center. The cost is $450 per team, plus a $32 fee for all non-town of Garner residents on the roster.

Men’s 50-plus softball league

A softball league for ages 50 and older is planned this spring by the Garner Parks Dept. Register by March 10, the night of the league meeting (7:30) at the Avery Street Recreation Center. The cost is $450 per team, plus a $32 fee for all non-town of Garner residents on the roster.

30-and-over basketball league

Players for a 30 and older basketball league to play mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Avery Street Recreation Center are needed. The fee is $68-90. Only individual entries are accepted. Teams will be divided on March 11 at the league meeting, which will be at 7 p.m. at the Avery Street Recreation Center.

Volunteer Youth Coaches

The Town of Garner is accepting applications for volunteer youth coaches. For more info, contact Jack Baldwin at 919-662-5051 or visit garnernc.gov for an application.

Preschool Open Gym

Preschool open gym sessions are held 10-11 a.m. on Tuesdays through March 25 at the Avery Street Recreation Center for ages 2-5. The fee is $2-3.

Wednesday Night Adult Open Gym

Open gym basketball for ages 18 and older is offered 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays at the Avery Street Recreation Center. The cost is $2-3. The open gym youth sessions will return from Feb. 8 until March 29.

Fitness Classes and Activities

The Garner Parks Department offers a variety of fitness training classes including Zumba, belly dancing, dancing, step classes and more. For info, visit garnernc.gov or call the Parks Department.

Spring youth baseball and softball

Registration for youth baseball and softball this spring with the Clayton Parks and Recreation Dept. is open until Feb. 3 (or until age groups are full). Leagues offered are T-ball (coed, ages 5-6 as of July 31, 2014), coach-pitch (boys ages 7-8 as of July 31, 2014), boys Tar Heel Leagues Inc. baseball (ages 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-17 as of May 1, 2014) and girls fast-pitch softball (ages 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 as of Jan. 1, 2014). The fee is $25 for residents of the town of Clayton or annual family members or $60 for non-residents.
