Nolan Bailey to play baseball at Bluefield College

February 7, 2014

Nolan Bailey signs with Bluefield College with his parents (seated) Mark and Kelly Bailey, (standing, from left) Cleveland principal Anne Meredith, his sister, Kallie Bailey, and Cleveland baseball coach and athletic director Jamie Lee.

Parents: Mark and Kelly Bailey

High School: Cleveland

Travel Teams: Carolina Cubs, Carolina Ravens

Height, Weight: 5-foot-6, 185 pounds

Position: Catcher

Why Bluefield? “I just liked the coaching staff and the way they ran the program and the campus is great.”

Major: Exercise Science/Kinesology

Notable: Nolan didn’t start catching until the eighth grade but it’s a position he loves more every time he gets behind the plate. “I like the fact that you’re a part of every play as a catcher,” Nolan said. “You’re not in the outfield waiting for a ball maybe to come to you. I feel like I have the game in my hand back there.” … He wants to improve his speed before he makes the move to college. … “Playing at Cleveland has been great,” he said. “The way the team has grown and the family feeling we’ve developed is great.”

Bluefield assistant coach Ryan Lambert: “Nolan is well ahead of his time offensively and produces an inside out swing that will have him fighting for playing time right away. … He exhibits everything you look for in a student-athlete. He is good academically as well as a solid competitor on the field.”
