Preschool Open Gym

Preschool open gym sessions are held 10-11 a.m. on Tuesdays through March 25 at the Avery Street Recreation Center for ages 2-5. The fee is $2-3.

Wednesday Night Adult Open Gym

Open gym basketball for ages 18 and older is offered 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays at the Avery Street Recreation Center. The cost is $2-3.

Recreational softball league

A recreational softball league will be offered this spring by the Garner Parks Dept. for ages 18 and older. Fun, fellowship and equally-competitive teams are needed for this USSSA league. Games will be Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Creech Road School Park. Register by March 10, the night of the league meeting (6:30), at the Avery Street Recreation Center. The cost is $450 per team, plus a $32 fee for all non-town of Garner residents on the roster.

Men’s 50-plus softball league

A softball league for ages 50 and older is planned this spring by the Garner Parks Dept. Register by March 10, the night of the league meeting (7:30) at the Avery Street Recreation Center. The cost is $450 per team, plus a $32 fee for all non-town of Garner residents on the roster.

30-and-over basketball league

Players are needed for a 30 and older basketball league to play mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Avery Street Recreation Center. The fee is $68-90. Only individual entries are accepted. Teams will be divided on March 11 at the league meeting, which will be at 7 p.m. at the Avery Street Recreation Center.

Volunteer Youth Coaches

The Town of Garner is accepting applications for volunteer youth coaches. For more info, contact Jack Baldwin at 919-662-5051 or visit garnernc.gov for an application.

Fitness Classes and Activities

The Garner Parks Department offers a variety of fitness training classes including Zumba, belly dancing, dancing, step classes and more. For info, visit garnernc.gov or call the Parks Department.

Spring Break Vacation Sports Camp

The Clayton Community Center will be offering a Spring Break Vacation Sports Camp for beginner, intermediate, and slightly advanced athletes from April 14-17, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily. The camp will teach and expose aspiring athletes to a fundamental knowledge of the area’s most popular sports. The camp will also teach the benefits of cross training activities and personal fitness exercises to best prepare athletes for their spring and summer activities and upcoming sports seasons. The cost is $115 per child and $75 for each additional sibling. Space is limited to 25 in each age group.

Summer Playground Program

The Clayton Parks and Recreation Department’s summer playground program for ages 6-12 will begin June 16 and run through Aug. 15. Camp is open daily from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. The program is fun-filled and active mix of daily activities including indoor/outdoor games, arts and crafts, gardening and more. Campers need to bring a lunch and two snacks and drinks daily. Registration for annual family members and residents starts March 3; open registration begins March 31. The cost is $50 per week for annual members/residents and $100 for non-residents/non-members. There is a non-refundable $25 registration fee and a half-week deposit is due to guarantee camper’s attendance per week. Additional siblings can register with a 10 percent discount.
