Garner Area Ministries sees to the needy

April 1, 2014

Garner Area Ministries is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. GAM is a non-profit agency that has helped those in the Garner area with food, clothing and financial support for over 30 years. GAM also runs a thrift store, located at 560-564 Village Court, Garner, which provides over half of the organization’s revenue.

Clients can select the foods to suit their families’ likes or dietary needs. The amount of food supplied depends on the number living in their household.

The thrift store provides more than half of GAM’s revenue, with all sales being used to pay for assistance and overhead.

Faithful shoppers and all those who have contributed clothing, books, household items, furniture, media and collectibles have made the operation a successful one. At this time the thrift store is most in need of gently used household items such as glassware, knick-knacks and the like. Tax receipts are available for all donations.

Those who wish to apply for assistance should bring Social Security cards for all members of the household, a photo ID and proof of residence, to 558 Village Court, Garner. Financial assistance for utilities, rent and prescription is offered once every 12 months, while food and clothing are offered every three months. Call 919-772-9178 for more information.
